    Hi Everyone.

Sisense is working on a Productized solution to expose the data dictionary functionality to additional user types in an upcoming version. We will be sure to keep you posted on the timeline of this important feature as development continues.

    Best,

    Jason

Who all has security to see this? Will it be just Super and Designers? Or is it everyone?

    Hi Andrew,

As of right now the plugin is setup so that everyone can see the link, however only Admins will be able to interact with the dropdowns.

    Great thing Douglas!

One thing I found missing, back button to homepage or to previous page :) Alternatively Data Dictionary could open in new tab maybe.

    Regards,

    Michał

    Hi Douglas,

This stopped working on 6.4. ElastiCube list does not populate anymore.

    Hi Michal,

I tested after the upgrade and it is still working.  Can you try to re-implement the plugin?

  • Michael Becker

Indeed, reloading plugin did the trick, thanks :)

    Hello,

Yes it should.  If that is not the case, please let us know.

    Hi Douglas,

I am on version 6.2.2.35, and I am able to select the 'localhost' server (it is the only option), and the cube that I would like to see the data for. This returns the Created date, and the last built date.

I do not see the fields in my elasticube though. Instead I see: "Note: The 'undefined' rows are joins in the ElastoCube".

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Can you export the list?  It would be nice to be able to export it into MS Excel so that we can keep track of tables and columns used in all our ElastiCubes to ensure we know the effect of schema changes.

Users of the data dictionary have requested the ability to view the formulas used to generate the custom fields within the elasticube.  This would be helpful in developing the necessary documentation for our dashboard content.

@David,  The list is exportable.  The download button is at the top left of the page next to the words 'Data Dictionary'.

@Frank, unfortunately this is currently unavailable.  The page is based on the API's and that is not part of the information that is available.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Douglas,

Doesn't appear to work in v6.5 or v6.6.  There are no choices presented for the server or ElastiCube even if on the host machine.  Are you planning to update?  We have some new users that this would be helpful for.

    Thanks, Jim

    Hi Douglas,

Would it be possible to allow designers to use this somehow?

    Best,

    Mohamed

    Hi Mohamed,

Unfortunately it is not possible to allow any users other than Admin users.  The basis for this plugin is an API that only allows admin access.  My apologies.

    Thank you

    Douglas

This doesn't seem to work with V7.  Is there an update in the works?

    Cheers,

    Robert

Add my name to the list of needing this in v7 until data viewer role is added to the web based ecube manager is made available.

    Hi All,

In v7.2 we released the ability to create Data Dictionaries, providing you greater flexibility and improved ease-of-use when modeling your data, you can now tag your data and add descriptions to it.

For more information, please refer to our documentation .

    Hi Alon,

will the descriptions and  tags be part of the REST API anytime soon. We want to make Sisense Elasticubes to be the Single-Source-Of-Truth regarding definitions for metrics and dimension but would like to avoid maintaining the dictionary via web frontend.

FYI - I also already created a ticket for this.

    Best,

    Matthias

    Hi,

We are using 7.2 version and want to create Data Dictionary. I would like to list all the tables and columns in Sisense and explain each column in excel. Please guide me the approach.

    Regards,

    Sai Krishna.

    @Jason Singer

    Back on
Sisense is working on a Productized solution to expose the data dictionary functionality to additional user types in an upcoming version.

Is there any update on it or document that we can reference to get it enabled?

    Thanks,

@alon, the PM who commented previously can likely answer this best @dennis.

Thanks Jason. I reviewed that document on what was done and that just expanded what you can all enter into Sisense for the Data Dictionary. But there's still no way for users (non-admin) to interactively access the Data Dictionary.  We'll look to see what the API can provide and maybe export it and use some other reporting tool for them.  Is there any timeline when this Plug-in will updated to work with 7.4 and non-admin users?

    Thanks everyone,

    - Dennis

Any updates on this project?  It definitely doesn't work in 8.x+
